We are studying the electronic structures of new and advanced materials. We are using synchrotron radiation to perform soft x-ray emission and absorption spectroscopy of systems like biomaterials, superconductors and transition metal compounds.

Advanced Light Source (ALS)

Brilliance of the Advanced Light Source

We are conducting our experiments at the synchrotron source at Berkeley, California, the world’s most brilliant soft x-ray source. Figure 1 is a comparison of the brilliance of this synchrotron light.

Beamlines at the ALS

In about 6 trips every year we study the electronic structure of advanced materials like ultra-hard Si, magnetic materials and biomaterials. Most of our research is done on Beamline 8.0.1. Some studies have made use of Beamline 6.3.2.
